30 of 30! Mission Accomplished!

Monday, January 31, 2011

A celebration is in order! I made it! 30 out of 30! Who knew? I mean I seriously doubted myself. I probably shouldn't of...but I just didn't know if I could do it. I've come across enough bloggers who tried and didn't finish, which increased my doubt...and I've had a nasty habit, as of late, with not finishing the things I start. But I did it. I finished! And I'm sooo proud. Super proud, in fact. I feel like I've learned a lot about what I can do. Both with general tasks that I put my mind too and the remixing my closet.

I suddenly feel way more confident on my abilities to make super cute outfits that are unique...without (and here's the shocker)...spending money. It's like a new super power that I've acquired and learning to use. Just like peter parker was bit by the spider and had to learn to use his super cool webs to get places and save people, I've learned to use my new "super powers" to save my bank account and closet. I know. I might actually save up some monies now. Shocker. Now that I'm not just spending all my time trying to shop for a new look. I now hold the knowledge on how to piece together a creation that will put me in all kinds of fashion magazines as a style guru (yeah, I wish). At least now I feel like I can feel more creative in the way I display my personality to the public eye. And that's really what matters. I have a new appreciation for the stuff I already have. So I'm just gonna pat myself on my back now and bust the lock off my closet door and say hello! It's time for a reunion.

So Goodbye 30 for 30 and...Hello Closet! Did you miss me?!?!? Cuz I certainly missed you....Oh. This is gonna take a while. Oh...till tomorrow then.

No Shame in a Free Weekend

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Free Weekend. Free. Oh Boy, Free. The ability to do whatever I want. No plans. No requirements. Nothing. Just straight up Freedom. And I don't know if I can really fully explain the need for this. But after two weekends of travel it's been really nice to stay at home. Not a lot was accomplished. But I'm pretty sure that's the point. I mean really. What's a free weekend...if you fill it up. Technically, I guess you could say that I filled it up...with relaxing. Ah Yes. Sweet Relaxation. That is nothing to be ashamed of. At least not right now...Sigh* What a great weekend.

Snuffles and His 15 Minutes of Fame

Saturday, January 29, 2011

I'm learning to be very aware of my surroundings. I've learned I might regret it otherwise...yikes. Anyways, yesterday I went out with tripod and camera in hand and took these photos at about 5:30 pm. It didn't take very long and soon after my roommate came outside to joke with me...it was all good fun. But, this morning while walking my dog, my neighbor asked me if I saw the bobcat yesterday. I mean I have seen some around in the area in previous years, but never in the front lawn of my apartment before. He then informed me that the cat was seen 5 pm the same day...

So if you consider the timeline, there was a bob cat looming around the of our apartment complex that I was taking photos...practically around the same time I was alone with my tripod and camera. So I promptly picked up two sticks and started banging them together...(get the parent trap reference there...no...oh...oh well...smile*) Anyways...I bet if we looks super close into the background of the photo we should see a Bobcat by the name of Snuffles (I just made that up) peering in for his chance to be famous on the internet. Go ahead Snuffles and Smile Big for the Camera. Ha. Anyways...next time I think I'll double check my surroundings before just prancing outside into the brush to take some photos. Just a little bit...yeah....

Make it Strong...

I fear the only words that can really explain how I feel are lyrics. The song, by Rosi Golan has been ringing through my ears this evening...And to explain...Here's Rosi...

Hats are Making a Comeback

Thursday, January 27, 2011

I'm fairly confident that hats...well...they are making there way back into the world again. It's not that they left or anything. It's just that they used to be more common than they are in the modern world. People used to wear them to the work place, while they travel and to weddings. But I never knew the kind of reactions I would receive by simply wearing my hat today.

I told myself during this challenge I would need to take risks. Try new things...do something out of the ordinary for myself. Whether it be wearing something very differently or wearing an accessory I've let go by the wayside. So I dusted off my cute fedora hat and decided to wear it to work.

It was well received. More so than I thought it would be. I had tons of compliments on it. Everywhere I went. People in the office, restaurants and even at grocery store. It was awesome. It made me feel very proud I made a bold decision for myself. I think I will do this again very soon. So at least for myself. Hats have made a comeback.

Slow Cooking

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

I am absolutely convinced that crock pots are one of God's gifts to the modern world. You simply pull together everything you want and presto...in a matter of hours, (more often than not, while you are not there..) you have a meal that is cooked to perfection.

My roommate got one for Christmas and we have been trying all the recipes we can think of. Tonight was a tex-mex chicken meal with spanish rice and chips and salsa. Yum. So very good. I think I will flip through the pages of her slow cooking cook book tonight and plan out the rest of our meals...yeah...that will be nice...Gotta go...

My Skirt Speaks More Languages Than I Can

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Today I wanted to try something different. I took a skirt that I would normally highlight in the outfit, (because of it's super cool front buttons), and I underplayed it. I made it become a secondary feature. I wanted to layer on top of it and have a little bit of fun. So I did and the result was pretty good, if I do say so myself. With the layering that I put together, I was able to make this skirt create an outfit that spoke to me differently. It was still the skirt, but now it looked like a dress, or really an outfit. And all because it just spoke a different language, all while still being super cute. And I paired it with some knee socks and cute heels and the result is just charming. Truly charming. So I'm really starting to understand how much this 30 for 30 is more helpful than I initially anticipated.

Baggage Claim Campout

Monday, January 24, 2011

I milked every hour that I possibly could out of this weekend. And I just have to say...I clean up nice for having been up for 40+ Hours. On Saturday morning I woke up at 4:00 AM for my flight out to St. Louis. I picked up my friends and we headed out on my way. (I wasn't too upset about his at the time as I had already considered how late I could sleep in on Sunday since church wasn't till 11). So I did it. I got up...and got to my flight. We had a long wonderful day in STL. But one friend wanted to make the adventure really last. Last, meaning: let's spend the night in the airport playing cards. I reluctantly agreed and we had our adventure.

It wasn't quite like we had planned. One, we planned on being through security by our gate all night. Not in the baggage claim area. Two, we planned to not be so tired. Three, we planned for naps. All of which didn't exist. By being in baggage claim...and not in the secure part of the airport, we couldn't just sleep as our bags would technically be unattended and could then be confiscated or stolen. By being tired...the card games were only contributing to the tired-ness that ensued. And naps just didn't have a chance with us as all the chairs in baggage claim had armrests were not very ken for laying down on. Oh well. We still had fun though. And it really was an adventure. Here are a few pictures of our fun times:

Meet Me In St. Louis, Louis...

Sunday, January 23, 2011

In the Top of the Arch
Meet me at the fair! Don't pretend the lights are shinning any place but there. We will dance the hoochie-coochie. You will be my toostie woostie. And you if you meet me in St. Louis, Louis. Meet me at the fair. Ah, St. Louis. You made me happy this weekend. It was another fine and wonderful weekend of Snow, Friends and Traveling. Three of my favorite things. It was super lovely. And on this trip...I tried several new things with some amazing people.

One. I finally went up in the arch. On previous trips to STL, I had looked at it, even walked up and touched it...but never had the chance to go up in it. But alas, I finally went up in it. It was one of the coolest places I've been in a while. It was such a beautiful view with all the snow and the icy mississippi river. Oh. It was spectacular. Snow, at least for me, always makes things better. And this was better than I had expected. So yay!

Two. City Museum is probably the coolest place I've never heard of and wish I had. We decided to "miss" our flight back to Dallas on the same day and stay in the city for the evening. City Museum was calling out our names. After learning the public transit system...we finally came across this place. It is what I would consider to be the largest indoor/outdoor adult playground. It's a sensory overload of color, shapes, textures and adventure. There is a 10 story slide, human hamster wheel, hidden caves and tunnels you can go through...and that's just the beginning. Right when you think you've seen it all...you come across something like and room filled (and I mean I've never seen this many before in my life) with sponges. You heard me. Filled with Sponges. It was so cool. It was a treasure. I will do my very best to go back to this place in the future...But till then I will recommend it to every one who travels there. It is amazing!

STL, thanks for the good time. But as I have now but up for 41.5 hours straight...I'm gonna head to bed. Night!
